Learn to Create Beautiful Lace with Gold Thread
Hardanger Folk Museum and Folgefonn Folk Art and Craft Association are organizing several weekend courses focusing on the techniques used in the Hardanger bunad. In this course, you will learn how to make lace using gold thread.
Gold and silver lace is often used on traditional bodice inserts in Hardanger, creating an elegant transition between the main motif and the ribbon edge at the top. It is also used for childens caps and other small bunad accessories. In some areas, such as Os and Fusa, gold and silver lace is applied to bunad bodices. On Voss, married women may have silver lace at the bottom of their bunad skirts.
Making lace is not as difficult as it might seem, especially with expert guidance from course instructor Åse Bratland. She will provide all necessary tools and materials. The course is suitable for both beginners and those with prior experience in lace-making.
