Concert with Henderson, Fliflet & Burgess

Henderson, Fliflet & Burgess play fast reels, the resin flies, and the floor shakes. They sing about whaling, friendship, and bravery in both English and Norwegian. There is a lot of salt and sea in the air, and the North Sea never feels far away. Both melancholy and hearty laughter thrive here as the guys stay close to each other. It flows, it sways, it swings – light and tight, raw and good.

Kevin Henderson is one of Britain’s best fiddlers. He is from Shetland, the windy archipelago north of Scotland, where the music scene thrives, and traditional fiddle music is strong. Kevin has been playing since he was a little boy, and he tours around the world, notably as a member of Fiddlers’ Bid, Nordic Fiddler’s Bloc, and the legendary Irish-Scottish group Boys of The Lough.

Gabriel Fliflet is an inquisitive musician known by many for his collaboration with drummer Ole Hamre in the duo Fliflet/Hamre, the quartet Gabriels Novgorod, or one of many commissioned works, such as Åresong (with poems by Jon Fosse) and Rose (Robert Burns in Norwegian).Gabriel plays the accordion as his main instrument, sings, and plays the piano, and has collaborated with many of Norway’s foremost folk musicians.

Richard Burgess is the Englishman who came to Norway in 1976 with a backpack and a guitar – and he is still here. In the meantime, Burgess has established himself as a distinctive singer-songwriter and folk musician, with a rich voice that he accompanies with guitar and concertina. He performs both solo and in groups such as Doggerland, Fat Dog, and Foghorn. He is also a writer, textbook author, and commentator.

The concerts at the Hardanger Folk Museum are organized in collaboration with the Hardanger Folk Music Collection, and with support from the Norwegian Arts Council.
