Hardanger Spelemannslag, Hardanger Folk Museum, the Hardanger Folk Music Collection and Friends of H\u00e5stab\u00f8 will celebrate this with several events throughout the autumn. The first event is a <strong>Hardanger fiddle competition at H\u00e5stab\u00f8 itself, near Kvanndal, on Saturday 15 August from 12:00 to 17:00<\/strong>. The programme continues with dancing throughout the evening.<\/p>\n<h2>Programme<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>12:00:<\/strong> Super Competition<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>13:00:<\/strong> Fiddle Competition<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>17:00:<\/strong> Break \/ setting up for dancing<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>18:00:<\/strong> Dancing<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>19:30:<\/strong> Prize ceremony<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>20:00:<\/strong> Dancing<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">You can enter the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li>Ensemble playing, junior and senior<\/li>\n<li>Hardanger fiddle, classes A, B, C and D<\/li>\n<li>Super Competition (for children under 12)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">And, of course, there will be a prize for the <strong>best H\u00e5stab\u00f8 tune<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>Registration:<\/strong> <a href=\"mailto:pamelding@hardingfolk.no\">pamelding@hardingfolk.no<\/a><br \/>\nRegistration deadline: <strong>10 August<\/strong><br \/>\nRegistration is free.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">For questions, call Svein on <strong>+47 452 35 870<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Food and drinks, coffee and cakes will be available for purchase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>A very warm welcome!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Ola H\u00e5stab\u00f8<\/h2>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Ola H\u00e5stab\u00f8 (1826\u20131899) was a Norwegian fiddler from Hardanger. He came from L\u00f8floten under H\u00e5stabba, which is also the name by which the farm is known. L\u00f8floten is located close to Kvanndal. More than 30 tunes associated with H\u00e5stab\u00f8 have survived, either composed by him or passed on by him in his own distinctive versions. He shaped the tune <em>Spelar-Guro<\/em>, which he learned from Nils Rekve, as well as the bridal tune from Isak Rokne. <em>Spelar-Guro<\/em> was named after his wife, whose name was Guro. The tune is also known as <em>Fj\u00f8llmanngjenta<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">In his later years, H\u00e5stab\u00f8 lived at Hamre. It is known that he played an Isak fiddle dating from 1751.\u00a0H\u00e5stab\u00f8 learned much of his playing from Nils Rekve and was one of his regular pupils. He also associated with Per Bulko and Nils Reiseter. He welcomed and played together with fiddlers from Telemark as well. Ola Mosafinn stayed at L\u00f8floten in 1850 and learned a number of tunes from Ola. H\u00e5stab\u00f8 had several other pupils, including Nils Tjoflot, whom he considered one of the finest, and Halldor Meland.
